This one’s not to be mixed, cantineros. We do talk quite a bit about cocktails here, but of course we know you love rum, so we thought we’d let you know about the latest addition to the Havana Club family. Ah, now we have your attention, right?
Last year saw the launch of Havana Club Unión, an ultra-premium rum exclusively created to be paired with Cohiba cigars. Of course Cuban rum and Cuban cigars have long been great companions, but Havana Club Unión allowed you to enjoy the best of both worlds in an ideal, one-of-a-kind pairing created by Maestro del Ron Cubano Asbel Morales with Master Habano Sommelier Fernando Fernandez Milian.
And today, Havana Club is unveiling a new project at the Festival Habano, in Cuba, the rendezvous of Cuban cigars lovers: the Havana Club Tributo Collection, a series of limited editions. The idea is straightforward: it’s about creating, with each release, a unique rum based on some of the finest aged rums from Havana Club’s cellars, in order to showcase different styles.
If the idea sounds simple on paper, it’s much more complicated to make it real. Great experience and know-how are necessary to select the perfect bases and blend the ideal rum. Maestro Asbel Morales said that the whole endeavour was “a fascinating process”. As a seal of guaranty, Morales’ signature (and the number of each bottle) is displayed on the label.
The 2016 limited edition has been described by Morales as “a powerful and full-bodied blend that brings to life years of natural ageing in white oak barrels” with notes of dried tropical fruits. Only 2500 bottles of the Tributo limited editions will be released each year, and the collection is only available on ten markets. Exclusive, but if you can manage to get your hands on it, your efforts will be repaid.
We’re already looking forward to the 2017 release. Meanwhile, we’re sure that this one will (first) intrigue and (then) seduce the most demanding rum lovers. Cantineros, let us know what you think…

Vi fick ett snabbt svar på den frågan på Facebook: ”Har släppts redan men kommer inte säljas i Sverige. Pris ligger på 300-350$.” (Vi har inte kollat om det stämmer, men det låter rimligt.)
