Whisper Gold Rum

Whisper Gold Rum dök upp på vår radar för första gången för oss i 24 Rums 2018 – som avsmakning nummer 2. Den fick representera Antigua. (24 Rums 2018 innehåller ju rom från 24 olika länder!)

Whisper Gold Rum är en ung rom, så den kanske inte gör sig helt rätt som ett prov – utan möjlighet att experimentera. På avstånd har den en trevlig och len arom, men när man kommer lite närmare så sticker den till ordentligt.

Den allra första smaken är spännande och riktigt god – men när den landar så bli det kravaller i munnen och upp i näsan. Men överraskande nog så lugnar den sen ner sig och landar i en ganska len och alldaglig vaniljsmak. I eftersmaken smyger sig lite bittra kaffetoner in.

Vi sätter inget betyg på Whisper Gold Rum här eftersom vi hade så litet prov – men betyget hade helt klart påverkats av prislappen. Vi fick googla runt – och hittade den för €32. Vi lägger in den som en allsidig rom; då det känns lite överdrivet att köpa in en lite speciell rom från Antigua, för att sen bara använda den som drinkrom.

Whisper was created by two childhood friends, one of whom grew up on the very small Island of Antigua, to the north of French Guadeloupe, in the Caribbean.

After the abolition of slavery, the British island was populated by Portuguese traders from Madeira who owned rum shops and founded the Antigua distillery in 1933. The distillery overlooks the main port and capital of the Island, St. John, to the North West of the Island.

The Island no longer produces its own sugar cane but imports molasses from Guyana. The distillery runs a long open-air fermentation of up to 120 hours, then tripled distilled producing rum at 95% vol. The owners have a passion for rum and love a local cocktail called “old fashion rum punch”, which sparked the idea of creating their own.

The name:
The name “Whisper” comes from the smooth aromas which are unveiled like a whisper. Traditionally English, Whisper is a light rum, the result of blended rums aged in an old barrel of bourbon. The name ” Whisper ” formalizes the sensations of the sweetness of the lifestyle in the islands of the Caribbean. It translates perfectly the delicacy of the aromas…

Antigua – the land of sugarcane:
Antigua is an island in the West Indies. It is also known as Waladli by the native population. Antigua is one of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean region and the main island of the country of Antigua and Barbuda. Antigua and Barbuda became an independent state within the Commonwealth of Nations on 1st November 1981.

Besides being known for its unequaled beauty, endless fine sandy beaches, the wonderful fauna, and flora, Antigua is also renowned for the reputation of its sugar plantations.

Production process:
The production of the Whisper rum is based on an ancestral know-how, which distinguishes itself in four stages, which are the fermentation, the distillation, the blend and the aging in old Bourbon Barrels. This process creates a delicately perfumed and well-balanced rum.
